Strategies of Agilent Technologies, a test and measurement solutions provider for communications market, are paying off well in India despite tough market conditions.

As per its long-term strategies, besides supplying T&M solutions to Indian telecom operators, network equipment vendors and handset companies, it contributes immensely to the success of global chip companies which have facilities in the country.

Agilent Technologies EMG India head Sudhir Tangri says the T&M major will not face slowdown due to Indian market conditions because it works with several Indian MNCs who work on 4G / LTE and other projects forglobal markets.

For instance, Agilent Technologies that has posted net revenue of $1.72 billion for the third quarter ended July 31, 2012, works with a number of global semiconductor companies in India. Most of these chip majors are working for global markets. For instance, Qualcomm has a big facility in Hyderabad and they are currently working on LTE projects for global markets. This means, struggling mobile market will not pose serious challenges to companies like Aglient Technologies.

Agilent Technologies, which has spent around $40 million to build its Manesar unit, is looking at adding manpower from the present 1500. “Manpower addition is going on aggressively. We cannot share specific targets,” Tangri told

Indian telecom players expect lots of customization before they select products from equipment makers and solution providers. But Tangri says Agilent has not done any customization for any Indian company. “Agilent products and solutions meet 3GPP standards. Since India is a highly regulated market, there is no need for any customization.”
For Agilent Technologies, Mynamar, where the telecom sector is opening up for global investments, will be a key market. The T&M solutions provider is currently watching the situation.

Recently, Agilent launched a new T&M solution  – ADS 2012 — with new capabilities to improve productivity and efficiency for all applications it supports. The new solution will address technologies applicable to GaAs, GaN and silicon RF power-amplifier multichip module design.

Agilent Test and Measurement

Agilent is also focusing on R&D for Asian and global markets. Recently, Agilent Technologies and China Academy of Telecommunication Research have agreed to work
together on TD-LTE MIMO over-the-air (OTA) test research. The MIMO OTA standard for TD-LTE is one of the standards that CATR is driving for the wireless industry across the globe. Customers of Agilent and stakeholders of the TD-LTE industry will benefit from this initiative.
