The LK Technologies NGI3000 is a general purpose ion gun designed for cleaning of surfaces in a high or ultra-high vacuum environment by means of noble gas ion sputtering. The gun may also be employed in ISS applications in order to provide a suitable beam of helium ions at low system pressure. 

The gun employs a novel gas injection system whereby the gas to be ionized by electron impact ionization is injected directly into an enclosed ionization region which houses a filament and grid structure. The ion beam is then accelerated out of the ionization chamber (canister) to the target. Due to the novel gas flow design the pressure in the target region is maintained lower than in the ionization chamber by greater than one order of magnitude assuming a typical pumping speed of 150 l/s is employed on the target chamber.

The gun is provided with an integral leak valve to provide a source of noble gas.
