Microscope Slides
Microscope slides are typically used for imaging specimens using traditional (non-inverted) microscopy. These glass slides can range in thickness (typically 1 mm) and dimension (typically 75 by 26 mm). When used with a coverslip and microscope stage, the slides provide a preferred method for imaging fixed solid or liquid samples.
The dimensions and thickness of slides vary with intended application, for instance 48x28 mm for thin tissue sections. The slide composition also varies -- glass for typical purposes or fused quartz for fluorescence applications. Concavity slides have a concave well for liquids or tissue cultures. Graticule slides are gridded to allow accurate estimation of features under magnification.
Beyond the specifications mentioned, quality of material and edge polishing are important considerations.
