Hydrogen Carrier Gas for Fast GC

Tue, Feb 3rd 2026, 6:00 PM

Join PEAK Scientific’s, Dr Ed Connor, as he discusses the considerations of switching from helium to hydrogen for your GC carrier gas. Talking you through the benefits of a gas generator for your lab, as well as the considerations to make during the conversion process.

You will come away with the knowledge needed to convert your carrier gas supply to a more sustainable alternative.

Key Learning Objectives

  • The main benefits of using hydrogen as a carrier gas as opposed to helium or nitrogen
  • The benefits of an in-house gas generator as opposed to cylinders or dewars
  • Considerations that need to be taken into account when switching carrier gas

Dr. Ed Connor, Product Manager, PEAK Scientific

Ed joined PEAK in 2013, initially as a GC product specialist and later in Product Management, focusing on collaborations with customers and instrument manufacturers—particularly on converting GC applications from helium to hydrogen carrier gas. He earned his Dr. Sc. at ETH Zurich in 2007, studying plant volatiles with GC-MS, and later conducted floral volatile analysis at the University of Zurich.
